Three With Ties to New Canaan Competing in Olympics

Two rowers and a water polo player from New Canaan will represent Team USA in the Olympics.

NEW CANAAN, CT—Three New Canaanites will be in Rio for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Rowers Andrew Campbell Jr. and Charlie Cole along with water polo player Thomas Dunstan will help represent the United States at the games.

Campbell graduated from New Canaan High in 2010 and Harvard University in 2014. He is the son of Andrew and Laura Campbell and has one brother, Charlie and two sisters Mary and Claire.

Campbell grew up sailing on Lake Michigan and trained in New Zealand during his sophomore year in college.

Cole graduated from New Canaan High in 2003 and graduated from Yale University in 2007 and Oxford in 2008. He won a bronze medal in 2012.

He is the son of Rufus and Ann Cole and has two brothers, Billy and Henry. He is married to Catherine Cole.

Dunstan is an attacker in water polo. He was born in Norwalk and his hometown is New Canaan. He graduated from Mater Dei High School in 2016 and is at University of Southern California. He is the son of Thomas and Amy-Jo Dunstan and has one brother Kieran and two sisters, Erin and Taylor.

"We are honored to have a group of internationally recognized athletes who call Connecticut their home and will represent our state and our nation in one of the most prominent sporting events in the world," Governor Dannel Malloy said. "We wish all of the Team USA athletes the best in this year's Olympic Games, but in particular you can guarantee that there will be a strong contingent of us back home in Connecticut cheering for our hometown stars."
