Three Sick Raccoons Killed in New Canaan

Animal control officers put down three of the sick animals.

NEW CANAAN, CT- Animal Control officers recently put down three sick raccoons in town.

Sick raccoons were found after residents called police between May 4 and 8, according to the New Canaanite. A fourth raccoon reportedly got into a fight with a dog under a resident's deck, but the animal left without incident and without making contact with the dog.

Raccoons are primarily active at night and around dawn and dusk, but they adjust feeding schedules in order to care for their young, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. It is not an automatic sign that the animal is sick.
