Various Scam Calls Reported In New Canaan: Police
Police said the scam calls often involve people claiming to be a federal agent, government official or law enforcement officer.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A number of scam calls have recently been reported in New Canaan, according to the New Canaan Police Department.
In a Facebook post Thursday, police said the department continues to receive reports of various scams involving residents getting calls from people claiming to be a federal agent, government official or law enforcement officer.
According to police, these scammers will often say a resident's information has been compromised as it is involved in illegal activity such as drug trafficking, or they will claim the resident has an outstanding arrest warrant.

"These scammers follow up with instructions that you need to purchase gift cards to provide the redemption code for, withdraw cash that will be picked up at a certain location or go to a Bitcoin ATM in order to remedy these issues," police wrote on Facebook.
According to police, a government employee or police officer will never ask residents to do any of these things.

"If you receive a call like this, please slow down," police said, "do not make rash decisions that involve money and contact New Canaan police."
