Vehicle Stolen in Darien Recovered in New Canaan, Gun Missing

The vehicle was recovered in New Canaan the next day, but several items, including a 9mm pistol were missing.

A 9 mm pistol and airsoft rifle were stolen after a thief drove off with a landscaper’s truck, police said.

Police have been dealing with a rash of car burglaries in town. This one may be related, police said.

A F350 truck registered to a 60-year-old Stamford man was stolen on Sept. 8 from Brookside Road. It was left unlocked with the keys inside.

It was recovered in New Canaan the next day on Wahackme Road, but several items were missing. A neighbor said the truck was left on the road around 7 p.m. on Sept. 8.

Among the stolen items were two weed trimmers, various tools, a Beretta 9mm pistol and a Ruger brand pellet rifle.

A housekeeper at the residence said that around 1 p.m. a white van pulled into a neighbor’s driveway and someone came out and drove the F350 away. Another person drove the white van away. She assumed it was another landscaper moving the truck, police said.

Police continue to investigate.
