Warning Issued By New Canaan Police Over Scam Phone Calls
Several elderly residents have received scam calls recently, prompting the warning.
NEW CANAAN, CT — Local police are warning New Canaan residents, particularly elderly ones, to be on the lookout for scam phone calls where the caller says they are a "grandchild" who was involved in an accident and need money.
"Several elder residents have received a scam phone call regarding an alleged grandchild that calls them indicating they were involved in a motor vehicle crash in NYC and need money to avoid going to jail," wrote New Canaan police in an Instagram post. "Hang up!!!! Don't give any money and attempt to verify the well being of your actual grandchild."
