Weapon, Marijuana Found During Motor Vehicle Stop: New Canaan Police

The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 10-inch long police-style baton, considered a weapon, and a small amount of marijuana were discovered in the vehicle of a 24-year-old Norwalk man Wednesday afternoon, after he was pulled over for a traffic stop by New Canaan police.

Balvirbudh S. Bhullar, of Hill Street, was pulled over by police at 4:35 p.m. on White Oak Shade Road because his vehicle had illegally tinted windows.

"A [motor vehicle stop] was conducted and upon approaching the vehicle and speaking with Bhullar (the operator), the officer detected the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from within the vehicle, in addition the officer observed in plain view inside of the vehicle a 10 inch long police style baton which is considered a weapon in a motor vehicle," wrote police in a statement.

Bhullar was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Weapons in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Less than One-Half Ounce of Cannabis-Type Substance
  • Use/Possession with Intent to Use Drug Paraphernalia

He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on June 6.

A passenger in the vehicle, Gurnett Kaur, 23, also of Norwalk, was issued infractions for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
