Weston Teen is St. Luke’s School Valedictorian
Carolina Warneryd '19 will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall.
A glorious day greeted St. Luke’s class of 2019 as the school’s 90th Commencement Exercises began on May 31, 2019. Seniors received a prolonged standing ovation in recognition of this milestone in their journeys. St. Luke’s Head of School Mark Davis welcomed everyone and shared a personal comment about each of the 70 graduates—a cherished tradition in a school where every individual is truly known.
Davis introduced St. Luke’s 2019 Valedictorian Carolina Warneryd, a Weston resident who has attended St. Luke’s since 6th grade, saying: “...With a GPA of 4.48 in a course load that would have broken the back of any other mortal, Carolina was first in her class in every year of high school. She also won the Harvard Book Prize and was recognized with distinction in every academic department multiple times, an accomplishment I have not seen heretofore in my 17 years at St. Luke’s. She has a rare intellect, and she is a rare scholar.”
Warneryd, who heads to Massachusetts Institute of Technology this fall, told classmates: “The most important thing about the SLS community is the support we give one another—support we should pass on to others in the future. Anne Frank wrote, ‘How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.’ I think Frank meant that improving the world begins in small ways—this is a message our teachers embody every day through all they give us, and it’s something we should take to heart. ”
Davis summed up the intense emotion of graduation day, calling it a beautiful sorrow —the sadness of endings mixed with the joy of accomplishment and excitement of new beginnings.
