NEW HAVEN, CT — A total of 1,100 New Haven Public School employees were sent notices that they could be laid off by the start of the next school year as the school system looks to cut costs.
The notices were sent to part-time workers or special-fund workers and not to full-time Board of Education employees including teachers, according to the New Haven Independent. The school system is working to close a $19 million deficit anticipated for the next fiscal year.
It is possible some of those issued layoff notices will be rehired as job descriptions are realigned, NBC Connecticut reported.
