2 Charged After Gunfire Erupts On Wolcott Street: Police
Walter Evans, 36, faces several gun charges among other charges. The other person charged is a juvenile.

NEW HAVEN, CT —Late Wednesday afternoon, numerous shots rang out on Wolcott Street, police said.
Patrol had descriptions of those allegedly involved and responding officers found the "suspects that matched the description of the individuals responsible for the gunshots," according to police spokesperson Sgt. Cherelle D. Carr.
Cops tried to stop the vehicle which, Carr said, led to "a short vehicle pursuit, followed by a foot
pursuit."

Two people were taken into custody and two semi-automatic pistols were recovered, Carr said.
Walter Evans, 36, was charged with criminal possession of a pistol, carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a weapon with a high capacity magazine, weapon in a vehicle, interfering with an officer, reckless driving, and engaging in a police pursuit. The other person arrested and charged is a juvenile, Carr said.

"These officers responded swiftly to the scene and showed great initiative," Carr said. "They demonstrated quick thinking during this incident while keeping the public safe. The community was also instrumental during this incident. This is just one incident that highlights the dedication of our officers and how our work together benefits our community tremendously."
