2 Women Hospitalized After Shootings In New Haven: Police

Police are investigating two shootings in New Haven.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Two women were hospitalized after being shot Sunday night in New Haven, according to police.

Police received a ShotSpotter alert around 9 p.m. on March 17 in the area of Hazel Street near Newhall Street, according to Officer Christian Bruckhart.

Bruckhart said Yale police then tried to conduct a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle that was speeding on Trumbull Street near Canal Street. Yale police officers found that an occupant of the vehicle, a 21-year-old female New Haven resident, was shot and being driven to the hospital, according to Bruckhart.

Yale police took her to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment, according to Bruckhart.

Bruckhart said her injuries were deemed to be not life-threatening.

“Shortly after, a second gunshot victim, a 27-year-old female New Haven resident, walked into the St. Raphael’s emergency department after having been driven there,” Bruckhart wrote in a news release. “Her injuries were also deemed non-life threatening.

“Patrol officers and detectives responded to the area of the ShotSpotter notification and located ballistic evidence in the area. The investigation is ongoing.”

Police didn’t say if the shootings were connected.
