NEW HAVEN, CT —A Clinton resident and a New Britain resident were seriously injured after a crash, which led a car to rollover and off the highway before crash landing.
At 11:51 p.m. Monday, personnel from Troop I responded to a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 91 Southbound at Exit 4 in New Haven.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2017 Nissan Rogue was traveling southbound in the left center lane of four. A 2021 Jeep Gladiator was traveling southbound in the right center lane.
The Jeep "encroached into the left center lane, impacting" the Rogue, state police said. The impact caused the Jeep to lose directional control and enter into the right shoulder, where it impacted the metal beam guardrail, state police said. The Jeep penetrated the guardrail, impacting a light post before overturning down an embankment, state police said.
The Jeep came to final rest on East Street, where it also impacted a 2016 Mazda CX-5, an unoccupied parked vehicle, state police said.
The driver of the Rogue did not report any injuries. The driver and passenger of the Jeep sustained life-threatening injuries and were both transported to Yale New Haven Hospital via AMR.
