1. Clemons To Step Down As ConnCORP CEO (newhavenindependent.org) — New Haven residents should know that Erik Clemons is stepping down Oct. 7 as founding CEO of ConnCORP, the group redeveloping Dixwell Plaza and leading the First HAVEN project on Dixwell Avenue. His departure comes after years of work on local anti-poverty programs, COVID relief, and arts and business initiatives, while ConnCORP's board begins searching for new leadership and says all projects will continue.
   

2. Jury Finds Bridgeport Man Guilty of 2021 Assault and Criminal Violation of a Protective Order in New Haven (ct.gov) — A New Haven jury has convicted a Bridgeport man of violating a protective order and third-degree assault after he approached and struck a protected woman at Rize Night Club in New Haven in 2021. Local police, prosecutors, and victim advocates from New Haven and Ansonia/Milford collaborated on the case. Sentencing is set for December 2 in New Haven Superior Court, underscoring local enforcement of protective orders.
   

3. Connecticut Emergency Operations Center partially activated as officials monitor nor'easter (wtnh.com) — New Haven County is under coastal flooding warnings as a slow-moving nor'easter brings 40–50 mph wind gusts along the shoreline and the potential for higher gusts overnight. State emergency officials have partially activated the Emergency Operations Center, delivered thousands of sandbags to towns, and warn that Sunday's midday high tide could cause additional flooding concerns.
   

4. Dunkin' Park hosts Walk ALS Hartford, over 600 participants brave nor'easter to raise $137K (fox61.com) — New Haven will host an ALS United Connecticut Walk at Lighthouse Point Park on Oct. 4, giving local residents a chance to raise money for care, equipment, and support services for people living with ALS. The event follows a successful Hartford walk that drew over 600 participants and raised $137,500, and organizers are encouraging more teams and donors to register online.
   

5. SCSU communists call for general strike, classroom walkouts to oppose ICE (campusreform.org) — Student activists at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven are urging classroom walkouts and a broad general strike after ICE arrested SCSU basketball player Deng Dhieu Kuach Deng at Tweed New Haven Airport for overstaying his visa. About 30 people rallied on campus, with a faculty union officer backing resistance efforts, even though a federal judge ordered Deng's release the day before the protest.
