Burglar Confronts Children, Gets Arrested: New Haven PD

The burglar was quickly apprehended by officers, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Police arrested a suspected burglar who broke into a family's apartment Feb. 6.

Police responded to a burglary complaint at 9:23 p.m. and detained a man who was walking around the area, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

A 37-year-old woman told police she was in her apartment with her three children, ages 12, 10 and 5 when a man climbed through a sliding balcony door. He demanded to know where someone the tenant hadn't heard of was, Hartman said.

The burglar checked around the apartment and then asked how to get out. He took nothing during the incident.

The tenant identified Mohammed Jawad, 30, of West Haven as the burglar. He as charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree criminal trespass.
