Calls Use NHPD Real Number, Names, In Scam, 'Panicking' Residents: PD
Scam calls come from a New Haven police phone number with real officers names telling people they have a warrant, must pay or face arrest.

NEW HAVEN, CT — The New Haven Police Department warns the public of an emerging scam that uses fake phone calls to target unsuspecting residents. Scammers are using real names of officers and have programmed their call ID to display the NHPD’s main phone line, making it easier for them to convince people that they are calling from the police department.
In these fraudulent calls, victims are informed that they have a Failure to Appear warrant and must pay the amount of the warrant. The scammers threaten that if victims fail to do so, officers will immediately respond to arrest them.
These scam calls may cause undue stress and panic to the residents who receive them. The NHPD emphasizes that these calls are not coming from the department and warns residents not to be taken in by them. If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and contact the department at the non-emergency number (203-946-6316) to verify if the officer is actually trying to reach you, or if it is indeed a scam.
