ConnCAN Blasts CT's Decision to Reject Funds For Charter Schools
The State Board rejected a proposal to allocate funding for 57 students who are currently being served at CT's public charter schools.

From ConnCAN: Today, the State Board of Education rejected a proposal to allocate funding for 57 students who are currently being served at Connecticut's public charter schools. The General Assembly appropriated funding for these schools in the most recently approved budget.
Jennifer Alexander, CEO of ConnCAN (the Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now) issued the following statement in response:
"Today's State Board of Education decision means that 57 public school students, who are currently being served at public charter schools, will not receive any state funding. This decision puts bureaucracy before children and perpetuates an education system that knowingly and systematically denies opportunity for the thousands of families who are currently stuck on waitlists for a quality education at charter public schools. All public school students, including the 57 students who were denied funding today, are our collective responsibility and should be funded fairly. The State Board of Education's decision is a function of our state's broken and outdated education funding system, which unfairly denies students the educational opportunities they need and deserve. It is time for a funding system that does not leave a child's education up to political whim and funds all students fairly across all public schools."
