Convicted Felon Shoots Himself in the Foot: New Haven Police

The man told police he was paranoid after smoking crack cocaine, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — New Haven Police say a convicted felon ended up shooting himself in the foot early Monday. At 2:13 AM, officers responded to a shooting in a third floor apartment at 63 Ellsworth Avenue, police said. There, they found the victim, Elijah McFarlin Jr., 52, who’d phoned 911 to report he’d struck a shotgun shell with a hammer and it fired into his left foot, police said.

The officers sent McFarlin to the hospital to attend to the hole in his foot, police said. They recovered his bloodied shoe in his bedroom. They found a sawed-off shotgun in another, and a spent shotgun shell in the trash, police said.

When Detective Daniel Conklin met McFarlin at the hospital, he told him he’d been paranoid after smoking crack cocaine, retrieved the weapon, and that while walking with it, shot himself, police said.
