Cops Investigate After West Haven Man, 41, Shot, Killed In New Haven

The fatal shooting of Charles Miller happened Friday night on Pond Lily Avenue and marks New Haven's second homicide of 2023.

NEW HAVEN, CT —New Haven police report the second homicide of 2023. Friday night at 8 p.m., cops got a Shotspotter alert about gunfire and a person shot on Pond Lily Avenue, between Valley Street and the dead-end of Pond Lily Avenue, police said.

When police got to the scene, they found Charles Miller, a 41-year-old West Haven man, who'd been shot, police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway said. Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, Miller died from the gunshot injuries, Shumway said.

The New Haven police Bureau of Identification collected bullet evidence and Major Crimes Unit detectives are leading the investigation.

At just after 3 p.m., on New Year's Day, New Haven police got a Shotspotter alert of gunfire on Grand Avenue, between Poplar Street and Blatchley Avenue, police said. When cops got there, they found Dontae Myers, 23, of New Haven, shot, police spokesperson Scott Shumway said. Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, he died from his injuries. His was the first homicide of 2023.
