Drag Racing Heroin Dealer Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison

The New Haven dealer funded a drag racing team, traveled and spent money on gambling.

NEW HAVEN, CT — The leader of a New Haven heroin trafficking ring was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison.

Bienvendido Gonzalez, 45, along with brother Antonio Gonzalez rang a trafficking ring that purchased bulk quantities of heroin from Bronx suppliers and resold drugs in New Haven and elsewhere, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.

The Gonzalez brothers were arrested March 15, 2017 when investigators seized a kilogram of heroin from a vehicle. Another 400 grams of heroin and $10,000 in cash was seized at a stash house, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

Gonzalez bought a barbershop, funded a drag racing team, gambled and traveled using the proceeds from trafficking.

Bienvendido Gonzalez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and distribution of, one kilogram or more of heroin. His brother pleaded guilty to the same charge.
