Tuesday Funeral For NHFD Firefighter Mieles, Killed In Off-Duty Crash

New Haven firefighter Thomas Mieles, 27, on the job since January, was doing what he dreamed of, serving the neighborhood he grew up in.

NEW HAVEN, CT —Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m., a funeral service, procession, and interment will be held for New Haven Firefighter Thomas Mieles who died while off-duty in a multi-vehicle crash Nov. 2.

Mieles joined the fire department in January 2022 and served as part of Engine 10 at the Lombard Fire Station in Fair Haven, the neighborhood where he grew up and lived.

The funeral service will be held at St. Francis Church, located at 397 Ferry St., New Haven. The processional and interment will follow and Mieles will be laid to rest at All Saints Cemetery, located at 700 Middletown Ave, North Haven.

“This is a sad and solemn day for the City of New Haven and the New Haven Fire Department. Firefighter Mieles was a New Havener through and through and just started his dream job and a promising career as a New Haven firefighter, serving the community he lived in and loved,” Mayor Justin Elicker said. “The City of New Haven continues to extend its deepest condolences to the Mieles family and grieves with them during this time of mourning and loss, and we thank Firefighter Mieles for his service as one of New Haven’s Bravest.”
