Halfway House Resident Hospitalized With Flu-Like Symptoms
A resident of a halfway house in New Haven has been hospitalized with flu-like symptoms, the Department of Correction announced Wednesday.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A resident of the Roger Sherman halfway house in New Haven was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital after exhibiting “flu-like symptoms,” the Department of Correction announced Wednesday. Officials said the offender, who is a resident of the halfway house on Howe Street, was taken by ambulance and admitted to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
“Under the advisement of the New Haven Health Department, and out of an abundance of caution, the residents and staff at the halfway house are refraining from leaving the halfway house pending confirmation of test results,” officials wrote in a news release.

To date, no offender under the supervision of the Department of Correction has tested positive for the new coronavirus, officials said. There are currently 59 offenders housed in the 61-bed Department of Correction contracted program. Also, as a precautionary measure, the Department of Correction’s Parole and Community Services Division will “temporarily suspend sending any additional offenders to the Roger Sherman House,” according to the release.
Staff from The Connection Inc., the parent company which runs the Roger Sherman halfway house is working in conjunction with the Department of Correction to monitor the situation.

“We are working closely with all our contracted community providers to ensure that all CDC recommended protocols are being followed,” Department of Correction Commissioner Rollin Cook said. “We are doing everything possible to ensure that not only the offenders under our supervision, but staff and members of the public as well are safe.”
