Woman Killed, Off-Duty Cop Seriously Injured In I-91 Crash
An off-duty police officer sustained several broken bones and ribs from the crash. The woman was killed.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A Hamden woman was killed in a wrong way I-91 crash in New Haven Thursday night.
State Police shutdown the northbound side of the highway between exits 6 and 8 before midnight.
Katherine Gavidia, 27, who was driving the wrong way collided head on with another vehicle. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene, according to State Police. She required extrication from her vehicle.

The other driver identified as Thomas Murray needed to be extricated from his vehicle. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
Murray, 29, is New Haven Police officer who was heading home after finishing his shift, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman. He broke both legs, his pelvis and several ribs and is in serious condition. He is undergoing surgery for his extensive injuries.

“The New Haven Police Department was saddened upon hearing of the serious injuries sustained by Officer Thomas Murray," said New Haven Police Chief Anthony Campbell. "Our thoughts, prayers and well wishes go out to him and his family during his time of recovery. We also wish to extend our sincere condolences to the family of the woman killed in this tragic crash and pray for comfort for all those affected by this sad event”.
