Homicide Victim ID'd In New Haven Shooting

NEW HAVEN, CT — An adult man was shot and killed Monday night in the city. An officer on patrol heard a gunshot from Poplar Street around 11:39 p.m. and began to investigate.

He found the shooting victim a block away on Richard Street, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

Darrin Norris Winfrey, 28, of Quinnipiac Avenue in New Haven was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he died from his wound.

"Thus far, no one has provided any description of the assailant or any possible involved persons or a vehicle," Hartman said. "Police are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with knowledge of this crime or who the perpetrator is, is urged to phone detectives at 203-946-6304. Calls may be made anonymously."
