It's Time For Spring Cleanup, New Haven: Street Sweeping Underway, Yard Waste Pickup Starts Monday

Here's everything you need to know, New Haven, so we can all do our part to keep our streets, neighborhoods, and city clean.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Time for spring cleaning, New Haven. Street cleaning, that is.

Street sweeping

To help keep the city's 234 miles of street clean, street sweeping began Wednesday. The annual program is designed to remove the heavy accumulation of salt, sand, litter, and leaves that has collected over the winter months.

There are 14 street-sweeping routes across New Haven. Several of the routes have had streets added or taken away to "ensure productive and efficient citywide sweeping," the City noted. Here are the 2026 routes:

  • Posting NO PARKING signs the day before your scheduled sweeping day.
  • Through New Haven Alerts - please register for the Emergency Notification System. If you are already receiving emergency notifications from the City, you will continue to receive a reminder each time a route is scheduled to be swept.

Yard waste pickup

Lawn bag and yard waste collection begins Monday. Leaf bags must be paper, composable, contain no branches, dirt, or rocks, and placed out at the curb on your refuse collection day. Do not use plastic bags or containers for leaf and yard waste. Yard waste will only be picked up at the curb if branches are four feet in length and tied in bundles not exceeding one foot in diameter.

Residents also have the option of delivering yard waste to the Residential Waste Center at 260 Middletown Ave.
