Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics to Pass through Wooster Street, June 5th
All are invited to come out and cheer on participants

Local officers participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Connecticut will carry the “Flame of Hope” down New Haven’s Wooster Street on Friday, June 5th at around 4 p.m. The officers will run up Olive Street, turn right onto Wooster Street, then turn left at Chestnut Street, then continue onto Chapel Street. All are invited to come out to cheer on the participating officers to show support for them, Special Olympics athletes and acceptance and inclusion for people of all abilities. The 40th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Connecticut will take place across the state June 3rd – 5 th . During the Torch Run, law enforcement officers will run through towns and cities carrying the Special Olympics Torch and “Flame of Hope”, passing it along to neighboring officers at each town line. Special Olympics athletes will run alongside law enforcement officers in select towns and during the “Final Leg”.
The Torch Run aims to promote awareness and understanding of Special Olympics, raise funds to support its athletes of all abilities and build excitement around its annual Summer Games at Southern Connecticut State University. About the Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Connecticut The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Connecticut is a year-round program and one of the movement's largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicles. Officers organize and host fundraisers that include but are not limited to Tip-a-Cop, Cop-on-Top and Penguin Plunge events, all to benefit local Special Olympics athletes.

A highlight of the program is the annual three-day Torch Run which takes place every June. During the Torch Run, officers from police departments and law enforcement agencies across the state run and carry the Special Olympics "Flame of Hope" more than 500 miles through their towns and cities to the site of the Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games.
