NEW HAVEN, CT — A man told cops he was beaten with a gun and then shot at outside a Whalley Avenue convenience store at 4 a.m. Saturday, according to police spokesperson Capt. Rose Dell.

With visible injuries to his face and body, Dell said the man told officers he was outside Sam's Mart when a black truck pulled up and a number of people got out. Dell said the man reported a "heated argument and physical altercation" ensued, and he was hit with a gun and shot at.

He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital and police were told his non-life-threatening injuries were caused by the assault, not a gunshot wound, Dell said.
