Man Killed In New Haven Stabbing

Police are also investigating a non-fatal stabbing and shooting over the weekend in New Haven.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man was killed after being stabbed on Congress Avenue Saturday night, according to police. The alleged perpetrator has been arrested.

Police were dispatched to the APT Foundation around 10:35 p.m. on a report of someone stabbed, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman. Keith Wylie, 51, was taken to the hospital and died a half an hour later.

Witness descriptions led police to find a man walking on Vernon Street, Hartman said. Daniel Streit, 33, of Chapel Street in New Haven was charged with first-degree manslaughter. The investigation remains active.

Another Stabbing Investigated

Police are investigating a non-fatal stabbing that was reported Saturday afternoon. The victim walked to the Grimes Center, a rehabilitative care facility of Yale-New Haven Hospital. He collapsed once inside, Hartman said. He was rushed to the St. Raphael's campus for treatment.

A crime scene was located on Kensington Street. The 34-year-old Hamden man had been stabbed several times in the neck and abdomen. He is in stable condition and his assailant hasn't been found as of Sunday afternoon.

Shooting Investigated

Police are investigating a shooting after a 41-year-old Hamden man was shot.

Gunfire was reported in the area of Newhall and Thompson streets by 911 callers and the city's ShotSpotter system. Police found no evidence of gunfire when they arrived at the scene around 1:25 a.m. Sunday.

Around 2:18 a.m. officers were dispatched to Yale-New Haven Hospital on a report of a walk-in gunshot victim. The 41-year-old Hamden man said he was shot while walking from the Taurus Cafe. A black Ford focus pulled up and the shooter fired from the vehicle, the man told police.

The victim was treated and released after sustaining a shot to the knee.
