Man Seriously Hurt In New Haven Crash

The man was last reported to be in critical condition.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Police are investigating after a city man was seriously hurt in a single-car crash.

The crash occurred Sept. 2 around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Valley and Blake streets. The driver was seen traveling at a high rate of speed and swerving before he went through a red light and struck a utility pole, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

Police are looking into a report from a concerned person that occurred moments before the crash.

"The caller told dispatchers he or she’d seen a person who appeared intoxicated, leaving a nearby liquor store and getting behind the wheel of a car matching the description of the one that ultimately crashed," Hartman said. "The caller reported the driver had sped off on Whalley Avenue in the direction of Blake Street."
