Mom Charged In Baby Death, ME Ruled Homicide By Fentanyl Ingestion: PD

NEW HAVEN, CT —The mother of a 10-month-old baby was charged Thursday by New Haven police with first-degree manslaughter in the death of her infant boy. The charge comes after the state medical examiner ruled the death a homicide by ingestion of drugs, including fentanyl, police said.

In late June, police were called to Farren Avenue for a report of an unresponsive baby. Not breathing, the infant boy was rushed to Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, and was later pronounced dead.

Special Victim’s Unit Detectives conducted a thorough investigation into the suspicious death of the infant, a police spokesperson said. Last Friday, a warrant was signed for Alexandra Polino, 40, of New Haven.

Polino surrendered to police Monday and was charged with first-degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a child.

Arraigned at the New Haven Superior Court, she was released from custody Wednesday after posting $250,000 bond. She's due back in court Nov. 8.
