New Haven 2018 Gun Buyback Event

The New Haven Police Department will hold a gun buy back event for the community.

NEW HAVEN, CT - From New Haven Police Department: Five and a half years after the horrific Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, The New Haven Police Department and The Newtown Foundation will host a sponsored Gun Buy-back event on Saturday, 23 June, 2018 from 10:00 AM till 3:00 PM at the New Haven Police Academy, 710 Sherman Parkway.

We are proud to once again announce a New Haven Gun Buy-back event with our long-time partner the Injury Free Coalition for Kids of New Haven and Yale New Haven Hospital’s Injury Prevention Program. This program is a determined effort to make New Haven safer by taking dangerous weapons off the streets and potentially out of the hands of those who perpetrate crimes.

The Buy-back will provide Gift Cards to those who turn in any working firearm.

No questions asked and no identification will be required, as the identity of all individuals will remain anonymous. Help us help our community by keeping guns out of the wrong hands.

There are many people who deserve our thanks but none more than the driving force behind this and all of our past GBB events, Pina Violano, manager at Yale New Haven Hospital’s injury prevention, community outreach and research program and co-director of the Injury Free Coalition For Kids of New Haven.

A change in protocol. The press will be invited to cover the GBB event between 3:30 and 4:30 PM but will not be permitted to film or photograph any earlier. This is to assure the promised anonymity of those turning in weapons.
