New Haven Businessman Sentenced In Tax Fraud Scheme
He helped his employee illegally avoid a substantial tax burden.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A city man was sentenced to a year of federal probation for his role in a tax avoidance scheme. Louis Goldberg owns Good Copy Printing Center Inc. in New Haven.
His nephew Ira Malkin, a salesman for the company had his personal expenses paid by the company and he agreed to reduce his commissions by the amount of personal expenses the company paid, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.
The scheme lowered Malkin's tax burden. There was an unreported total of $40,490 in Medicare taxes between 2003 and 2012.

Goldberg has paid the IRS about $105,000 in restitution, which includes taxes owed, interest and a penalty.
Malkin was sentenced to six months of prison and six months of home confinement. He has repaid all IRS back taxes, but still owes more than $700,000 in interest and penalties.
