New Haven Fire Battalion Chief Suspended Over Assault Arrest

The battalion chief had been on administrative leave as a result of the 2018 arrest.

NEW HAVEN, CT — New Haven Fire Battalion Chief Herschel Wadley has been suspended by the department without pay as part of a disciplinary decision by Fire Chief John Alston, reports the New Haven Register.

Wadley was arrested on an assault charge in December 2018 following an altercation with a female employee at the Horwitz Uniforms store in West Haven. The fire department has a clothing account at the store, and Wadley and the worker argued over a pair of boots, which police said led to Wadley grabbing the woman by the neck.

The length of Wadley's suspension has not been determined. He had been on administrative leave following the arrest.
