New Haven Man, 18, Robbed Teen Of $50 At Gunpoint: Hamden Police

Police say the man robbed a 17-year-old girl, who had been a passenger in a car he was driving, at gunpoint.

HAMDEN, CT — An 18-year-old New Haven resident was arrested after police say he robbed a teenage girl, who was riding in a car with him, at gunpoint last month in Hamden. The victim was robbed of $50 in the incident, according to police. The investigation was launched on Sept. 13 when Hamden Police responded to a “fight-in-progress” on Augur Street, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said a 17-year-old Hamden resident, who was involved in the fight, told police that she was a victim of an armed robbery that occurred on Sept. 11. It wasn’t clear if there was a connection between the fight and the armed robbery, according to Smith.

Officer Derick Manning conducted an investigation that focused on the armed robbery and found that that the teen was traveling in a motor vehicle that was operated by Taezham Brewer.

Brewer “pulled off the road” on Deepwood Drive, pointed a gun at her and subsequently stole $50 and then ordered her out of the vehicle, according to Smith. Police obtained an arrest warrant for Brewer, which was served on Sept. 28.

Brewer, 18, of Peck Street in New Haven, was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree larceny. He was detained on a court-ordered $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Oct. 12.
