New Haven Man Found Dead In Hamden: Police

The cause of death is being investigated. No foul play is suspect, according to police.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A Department of Motor Vehicles sergeant was found dead in Hamden on Saturday evening. Sergeant Rob Tyson, 40, of New Haven, was found dead at a business he was in the process of launching at 2155 State Street in Hamden, WFSB reports.

At about 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 2, Hamden Police responded to a report of an unconscious person lying on the ground, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said Hamden Fire Rescue responded to the scene and rendered medical assistance. The unconscious person, who was later identified as Tyson was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Tyson was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, according to Smith.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington conducted an autopsy on Dec. 3.

Smith said Hamden Police are working collaboratively with the OCME in investigating the untimely death. No foul play is suspected.

The Connecticut Police & Fire Union shared the Eyewitness News report on Facebook with “heavy heart and great sadness” on Sunday.

“Yesterday evening, DMV Sergeant Robert Tyson, age 40, was found deceased outside a business that he owned in Hamden,” reads the post. “Hamden police have launched an investigation into the cause of his death. Rob was a good friend, co-worker, police officer and a tremendous individual. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. While we anxiously await the results of the autopsy and police investigation, we keep Rob's family and girlfriend in our thoughts and prayers.”
