New Haven Man Found With Gun, Drugs In Hamden: Police

Police say the man was parked at an intersection for nearly 15 minutes and was found with a gun in his lap and 14 bags of cocaine.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man was arrested after police say he was found with a gun, drugs and cash while apparently sleeping in a car at an intersection in Hamden early Monday morning. At about 2:45 a.m. on June 4, Hamden Police responded to the intersection of Pine Rock Avenue and Woodin Street on a welfare check. A concerned citizen told police that the operator of a motor vehicle was parked at the intersection for nearly 15 minutes and that he appeared to be asleep, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said arriving officers saw a “black handgun” in the operator’s lap. The operator of the vehicle, Michael Jones, was quickly taken into custody. During a search of Jones, he was found to be in the possession of a Glock .40-caliber handgun, 14 bags of crack cocaine, a bag of marijuana and $874, according to Smith. Police also seized drug paraphernalia during a search of Jones’ vehicle.

Jones, 36, of Ramsdell Street in New Haven, was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jones, who was detained on a $10,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 15.
