New Haven Man Struck Officer With Vehicle: West Haven Police
Police say the suspect was parked illegally in a handicapped parking space and sped away and struck the officer who questioned him.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man has been charged with striking a West Haven Police officer with a vehicle after shoplifting at Walgreens, according to police. Nelson Vidro, 39, of Hubinger Street, was arrested following an extended investigation, police said.
At about 7 a.m. on Nov. 18, a West Haven Police officer stopped at Walgreens on Campbell Avenue and saw a vehicle parked in a handicapped designated parking spot without proper markings.
Police said that as the officer approached the vehicle and began questioning the driver, the man sped off and struck the officer. Police said the officer sustained minor injuries in the incident.

During the investigation, police learned that the vehicle’s operator, Vidro, had just shoplifted from the store which was unknown to the officer.
Vidro was found and charged with robbery, larceny, assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment and motor vehicle charges.
