New Haven Men Caught With Stolen Car, Items At Mall: Trumbull PD

Police say two 18-year-old men were arrested after a foot chase through the mall and parking lot.

TRUMBULL, CT — Two 18-year-old New Haven residents were arrested after they were found with a stolen car, and more than $2,000 worth of stolen items and stolen credit cards, at the Trumbull Mall over the weekend, according to police. The two men, Jasean Smith and Marquise Harris, were both arrested after a foot chase with officers through the mall and parking lot, police said.

Police learned that the men had driven to the mall at about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning in a 2010 Audi Q5 that had been stolen the previous night in Newington. The vehicle’s owner reported to police that her credit cards, which were left in the car, were being used at various stores in the mall that morning.

“The initial investigation by police at the stores involved provided video images of the suspects, while other officers were able to locate the stolen vehicle parked and unoccupied in the mall parking lot,” Trumbull Police wrote in a press release. “When officers observed the two suspects returning to the stolen car, the two fled on foot through the mall. One was captured as he tried to hide amongst other shoppers near the Build-A-Bear store. The second was stopped in the mall parking lot when he was confronted by a police canine team.”
