New Haven Murder Suspect Possibly Killed In Virginia
A New Haven murder suspect may have been killed in a shootout with police in Virginia. A police canine was killed.

NEW HAVEN, CT — New Haven Police and other authorities are working to confirm whether a murder suspect was fatally shot by police after a pursuit in Virginia.
Tramaine Poole, 41, of New Haven is a suspect in the shooting death of a 28-year-old woman May 31 near Wilmot Road and Wintergreen Avenue in New Haven. The woman was fatally shot in her car while her children, ages 6 and 11, were in the car, according to police. His wife also accused him of shooting her on May 7 on Henry Street.
New Haven homicide detectives left for Sussex County, Virginia this morning, said Officer David Hartman, New Haven police spokesman. Officials haven't confirmed whether Poole was the man shot and killed by police during a pursuit. A Virginia medical examiner is expected to arrive at the scene shortly. "The identity of the suspect, who is deceased, has not been confirmed," Hartman said "VSP has informed us their medical examiner is expected to arrive at the scene shortly. The positive identification process willlikely take some time."

A stolen vehicle was traveling north on I-95 and refused to stop for a Virginia state trooper shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police. Shots were fired from the pursued vehicle. The chase ended near Loco School and Bells Roads in Sussex County. Police positioned themselves to stop the vehicle and a suspect continued firing at police vehicles.
A bullet pierced a police cruiser and struck a police canine. The police canine didn't survive his injuries.
State Police returned fire. The male suspect died at the scene. His body will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond, VA for an autopsy. A female passenger was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Three troopers have been place don leave in accordance with state police policy regarding officer-involved shootings.
