New Haven Officer Resigns Amid Background Check Scandal

The officer allegedly falsified background check reports on recruits, according to an internal investigation.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A city police officer has resigned after it was revealed she filed false background check reports on prospective police officer recruits, according to an internal investigation.

Officer Leah Russo resigned as the department opened the investigation, according to the New Haven Independent.

A review found 17 cases where Russo fabricated conversations with friends and neighbors of officers.
