New Haven Police Department Mourns Death Of K9 'Magnum'

K9 Magnum was partnered with Officer J. Staffieri for 7 years and during that time, the duo did meet & greets with countless schoolkids.

NEW HAVEN, CT — "Beloved" New Haven police K9 Magnum has died, police announced with "heavy hearts."

Partnered with NHPD Officer J. Staffieri, the "duo proudly served the residents of New Haven since June of 2015," police wrote on Facebook. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer J. Staffieri and his family."

Police described Magnum as "not only an amazing asset to our department, he also enjoyed playing with his handler’s children and attending many meet and greets with students at schools in New Haven as well as in surrounding towns."

Staffieri and Magnum "had a decorated 7.5 years as partners," police wrote. The duo "were responsible for numerous apprehensions of dangerous and violent criminals and took large amounts of contraband off the streets."
