NEW HAVEN, CT — Police will hold a gun buyback event Dec. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 710 Sherman Parkway.
Gift cards will be provided to the anonymous participants. Single and double-shot handguns are worth $25, rifles and shotguns $50, pistols and revolvers $75 and assault weapons $100.
Guns must be delivered unloaded in clear plastic bags. Ammunition must be delivered in a separate bag if it is to be turned in. The person dropping off the gun won't be charged with illegal possession of that firearm.

In previous years guns would be destroyed. This year volunteers from the prison inmate population will work with sculptor Gar Waterman to turn pieces into gardening tools. Some tools will be donated to the New Haven Public Schools to support agricultural programs.
