New Haven Police OT Expected To Be $2.5 Million Over Budget
Retirements continue to eat away at the department's staffing levels.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Police overtime has come down a lot compared to the beginning of the year, but it is still expected to be $2.5 million over budget by the end of the fiscal year in June.
At one point overtime exceeded $154,000 in one January week, according to the New Haven Independent. Supervisor promotions have cut down on supervisor overtime, but the department lost 23 members to retirements and resignations this year.
There are as many as 80 other officers eligible for retirement by the end of the year.
