New Haven Pursuit Ends In Arrest

A man who was suspected of a Milford robbery was arrested.

MILFORD, CT — A man wanted for a New Haven shooting was arrested after a police pursuit that started after a robbery at the Milford mall, according to police.

Milford Police were alerted to a robbery at the mall Saturday around 7:45 p.m. and broadcast a description of the getaway vehicle to nearby departments. New Haven Police were contacted by West Haven Police about the pursuit around 8 p.m.

The pursuit entered New Haven's Newhallville neighborhood with a crash involving the suspect vehicle and a West Haven Police cruiser, said Officer David Hartman, New Haven Police spokesman.

Driver Darryl Huckabee, 46, was taken into custody on a New Haven Police shooting arrest warrant. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. A woman and her minor child were passengers in the vehicle and were also taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Hartman said.

Huckabee is also a suspect in a similar robbery at the Trumbull mall on Friday, according to Trumbull Police. Charges for the Trumbull, Milford and New Haven incidents are expected.

Huckabee was charged with a Dec. 19 shooting on Bassett Street. Police believe the shooting stemmed from an argument over a woman, Hartman said. Police had been searching for Huckabee prior to the police pursuit. He is charged with first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit.
