New Haven’s Frank Mitchell Appointed to Connecticut Humanities’ Board of Directors
Mitchell, Executive Dir. and Curator for Amistad Center for Art and Culture at Wadsworth Atheneum Museum, is one of three new board members

Connecticut Humanities, the state’s nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, has announced the appointment of New Haven’s Frank Mitchell to the nonprofit organization’s Board of Directors. Mitchell joins two other new board members, beginning their terms on August 1.
Mitchell is the Executive Director and Curator for the Amistad Center for Art and Culture at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford. He received his A.B in History/English from Bowdoin College, his M.A. in African American Studies from Yale University and his Ph.D. in Programs in American Culture from the University of Michigan.
Previously, Mitchell held positions in collection and program management at the New Haven Public Library, the Peabody Museum of National History in New Haven and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at the New York Public Library. He is also a professor at the University of Connecticut and held positions at Trinity and Franklin and Marshall Colleges.

“Frank Mitchell brings to the table talent, expertise, energy and an undeniable passion for the humanities,” said Doug Fisher, Connecticut Humanities’ Executive Director. “We look forward to working with him during this difficult, yet important time for our organization.”
Mitchell, who will serve on the board’s Application Review and Public Humanities Programming Committees, joins Mystic Museum of Art Deputy Director Dawn Salerno and Danbury’s Lewis J. Wallace, Jr. as new board members.

Connecticut Humanities’ Board of Directors meets quarterly and is responsible for reviewing grant applications, setting policies, reviewing budgets, assisting in the fundraising process, participating in committee work and serving as an important link between Connecticut Humanities and the public.
