New Haven Schools Lay Off 36 Full-Timers

It's the latest move to close a $19 million budget deficit.

NEW HAVEN, CT — City schools will lay off a total of 36 full-time employees before the start of the new school year.

Most of the layoffs are for guidance counselor positions, according to the New Haven Independent. Each counselor will now be responsible for 250 students, which is then umber recommended by professional associations.

Due to the union contract those laid off could fall back on teaching certifications and bump newer teachers.
