Obit: Brownie Brown, 98, Of New Haven

She opened a beauty parlor in Newhallville.

Brownie Joyner Brown 98, of New Haven, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018. She was born on July 31, 1919 to the late Raymond McCoy and Pearlie Dixon McCoy in Snow Hill, North Carolina. Brownie left North Carolina in the early 1940’s during the “Great Migration North” first moving to Springfield, MA.

Brownie moved to New Haven and worked in a shirt factory in the Wooster Square Area then onto a laundry/dry cleaners downtown. Brownie attended the Harrison School of Beauty graduating in 1959 as a Licensed Cosmetologist. In 1960, Brownie opened her own beauty parlor on the corner of Huntington & Sheppard St in the Newhallville. Several years later she sold her business and worked as a Home Care Specialist provider until full retirement.

Brownie leaves to cherish her memory, son, William K. Joyner; grandsons, Dale (Claire), Taylor and Max (Kimberly) Joyner and Brian (Jodie) Woolfolk; daughter, Betty (Zeb) Cobb; and host of relative and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, William “Bud” Joyner; daughter, Delores Jean Joyner; and second husband, Master SGT. Willie J. Brown.
