Obit: NHPD Retired Capt. Jeff Hoffman, 46

Hoffman was a retired New Haven Police captain and member of the Connecticut Board of Pardons and Parole.

Jeff Louis Hoffman of Madison, passed away suddenly October 4, 2017. He was the husband of Stephanie Lehr Hoffman. Born in New Haven, April 20, 1971, son of William and Claire Hoffman. Jeff was a graduate of East Haven High School and the University of Connecticut. He was a proud alumnus and a dedicated season ticket holder of the men’s basketball tickets.

Jeff worked for Senator Joseph Lieberman, as an aide and in constituent services, before being appointed to the New Haven Police Dept. in 1995. Jeff worked in many areas of police service including investigative services, narcotics, and as a district manager before retiring as Captain of the Patrol Division in 2015. He was appointed to the Connecticut Board of Pardons and Parole by Governor Malloy in 2016. He was a member of New Haven Police Emerald Society and received numerous awards and commendations throughout his career including being named the Knights of St. Patrick Police Officer of the Year in 2011.

His favorite past time was watching his son, Kyle, play basketball and baseball where many great friendships developed. Jeff was keen on physical fitness, loved his music (especially the Grateful Dead) and knew how to let loose with all of his friends. He loved to travel, and favorite trips included New Orleans, Ann Maria Island, FL, and Gloucester, MA. He is the loving and proud father of Kyle Hoffman. Brother of William (Marnie) Hoffman, NHPD. Son-in-law of Blake L. and Lois Lehr. Brother-in-law of Blake Steven (Vicki) Lehr, Tracy (Michael) Roth, Kristin Lehr, Stuart (Nichole) Lehr, Eric (Laura) Shine, Elizabeth (Richard) Nace, and Marlene Fitzmaurice.

Also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.Visiting hours will be held in the IOVANNE FUNERAL HOME INC. 11 Wooster Place Sunday from 3-6pm. Relatives and friends are asked to go directly to Mercy by the Sea 167 Neck Rd. in Madison for Jeff's funeral service Monday morning at 11:30. Burial will follow in West Cemetery. Memorial contributions for Kyle’s education can be made payable to Stephanie L. Hoffman and given to the funeral director which will then be deposited into an educational trust.
