Obituary: Frank Vollono, 85, formerly of East Haven

"The very best crane operator," he worked on the Q Bridge, and enjoyed the camaraderie of union brothers, the Yankees, boating, and fishing.

Frank Vollono, 85, passed away peacefully at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton after a brief illness. Frank is survived by his son, Albert (Robin) Vollono and daughter Lori (Ron) Bova. He also leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Jane (DeFillippi) Vollono, and her children, Christine (Willy Larreal) Coppola and John Coppola, Jr. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Ron Bova, Jr., Jordan (Marco) Imperati, Carly Bova, Danielle Vollono, Nikki (Brien) McMahon, and Lorenzo Larreal; and 5 great-grandchildren, Gianmarco, Reese, Aviana, Luciano and Jameson. He leaves his beloved sister Nancy (Anthony) Mastriano along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his former wife, Peggy Vollono.

Frank was born in New Haven, Connecticut on February 11, 1938 to Albert Vollono and Mary (Delucia) Vollono who predeceased him. Frank was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and one of the very best crane operators around. He worked on countless buildings and bridges in Connecticut and was especially proud of his work on CityPlace II in Hartford and the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge in New Haven. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his union brothers. Frank also loved leisurely days boating and fishing with his friends at the Indian Neck Yacht Club. Frank retained his love of the ocean when he moved to Florida in 2018. He was also a huge fan of the New York Rangers as well as the New York Yankees.

Frank's funeral procession will leave East Haven Memorial Funeral Home on SATURDAY March 25, 2023 at 11am, a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish- Our Lady of Pompeii Church- Foxon Rd campus at 11:30am. Calling hours will be held on SATURDAY from 9am- 11am at the funeral home. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
