Officers Rescue Suicidal Woman From East Rock

Officers are being credited with helping to save the woman's life after she contemplated jumping off East Rock.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Two New Haven officers are being credited with saving the life of a woman atop East Rock who contemplating jumping to her death. The incident was captured on one of the officer's body cameras.

Officers Doug Pearse and Brian Jackson responded to the summit of East Rock after police got a report from the woman's mother that she planned to kill herself, according to the New Haven Independent.

Jackson came across the woman and radio'd for others to respond to his location and Pearse who was nearby responded.

The two reasoned with the woman who said she was upset that she had failed as a mother, got a bad prognosis for a heart condition and had recently ended a romantic relationship. Eventually the two officers pulled her off the rock.

Jackson credited an intervention course that he took at UConn with helping to solve the situation, according to Fox 61.
