Travis James, 47, was stabbed to death by Antwine Mike, now 50, after an altercation outside Sam's Mart on Whalley Ave., in June 2024: Jury

NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven Superior Court jury found Antwine Mike, 50, of New Haven, guilty of first-degree manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of another New Haven man in 2024, said New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr.
According to Doyle and evidence introduced at trial, Mike was convicted of stabbing Travis James, 47, outside Sam's Mart on Whalley Avenue on June 1, 2024.
Just after 1 a.m., on that Saturday, Yale Protective Services at St. Raphael’s Hospital notified New Haven police of a walk-in victim with a gunshot wound.

James, who had been dropped off at the hospital by private vehicle, died from his injuries. But it turned out that James, unresponsive and in critical condition, had been stabbed, not shot.
Investigators learned that James had been at Sam’s Mart on Whalley Avenue when he got into an argument, which escalated.

New Haven detectives "quickly developed Antwine Mike as the suspect based on video surveillance along with tips made by community members and New Haven police officers who were familiar with him," police said then.
Investigators secured an arrest warrant for Mike, who the next day turned himself into the police "without incident" and was then charged with murder.
The case was investigated by the New Haven Police Department and was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Melissa R. Holmes and Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah E. Jones, with assistance from Inspector Sean Faughnan.
State’s Attorney Doyle would like to extend his gratitude to the New Haven Police Department for their investigative efforts, as well as the State of Connecticut Division of Scientific Services for their cooperation and assistance.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 22, 2026 in New Haven Superior Court.
