NEW HAVEN, CT —Outside the Regal Inn motel near a Route 15 on-ramp Tuesday morning, a pedestrian "unexpectedly crossed" in front of a car traveling on Whalley Avenue and was hit, police said. The person was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where, as of Tuesday night, was in critical condition, according to New Haven police spokesperson Capt. Rose Dell. Police said the driver, "cooperated fully with responding officers and remained on the scene."
The driver told police she was traveling north on Whalley Avenue just before 11 a.m., when
she approached the three-way intersection and, having a green light, was driving through the intersection when the pedestrian "unexpectedly crossed in front of her vehicle, resulting in a collision," Dell said.
The New Haven police Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating, Dell said, adding that the probe will "take some time."
